Anyone who’s used an ad spy tool for a while has seen this: the same page running the same video in ten, twenty, fifty different ads. It looks messy. In practice, it’s one of the strongest signals in the Library.
Why someone duplicates an ad
Advertisers almost never duplicate a creative by accident. The most common reasons:
- Scale across multiple ad sets. Instead of increasing the budget on just one ad set, the advertiser runs the winning creative across multiple audiences and campaigns.
- Expand into new countries or languages. The same video with different subtitles or text.
- Test small variations. A different headline, button, or opening line, while keeping the same media.
All three have one thing in common: no one multiplies a creative that’s losing money.
How FreeSpy counts copies
Every ad in the Library has its own ID, even when the media is identical. FreeSpy groups ads that use the same creative and shows the total as copies. So instead of seeing twenty identical cards, you see one creative with the number next to it.
Reading copies alongside days live
Copies and longevity answer different questions:
- Lots of copies and lots of days live: a proven, established winner. This is the one most worth studying.
- Lots of copies and only a few days live: a new creative that got results fast and is being scaled right now. This is where opportunities show up before the competition catches on.
- One copy and lots of days live: could be a low-budget evergreen or a forgotten ad. Look at the rest of the page before you draw a conclusion.
- One copy and only a few days live: a test. It doesn’t tell you anything yet.
Case 2 is the most valuable—and the most perishable. In a few weeks, everyone will have seen it.
What to do with this
On the FreeSpy homepage, the Taking Off Now section shows exactly case 2: recent ads that are already being repeated. It’s worth checking every day. See the full routine in how to mine the Library in 15 minutes a day.
